Sinterklaas! a HUGE festivity in a small country.

Here in the Netherlands, homebase of AI-Widget, we are in celebration mood. Why? Because Sinterklaas (Saint Nicholas) is visiting our small Country again!

Sinterklaas History

Every year, end of November, he is coming all the way from Spain (as we were told when we were small kids) by his vintage steam vessel, which is loaded with presents and candy. Then, the 5th of december we celebrate his appearance with the whole family.  But thats not all, together with Sinterklaas comes a whole team of helpers, dressed in funny and colourful cloths. They jump around, make fun and throw candy to the children.

The story goes that when you were a good kid last year, you get presents. Did you behave badly? Better watch out, because Sinterklaas could take you in one of his emptied gift bags...!

The Tradition of writing Poems

The most famous tradition before to and during this celebration is the giving of poems and rhymes that come with presents. All written by Sinterklaas and his helpers of course. When you grow older, you find out it is all a story told to you by your parents who were the ones buying you presents.

But! Even as an adult you dont want to give up on this fun part of the year, so we proceed celebrating the 5th of december by buying each other presents and writing poems and rhymes with that.
